Time to master the art of martial art
WARWICK Tae Kwon Do Club members took part in a training session at the weekend to prepare for upcoming grading.
Sixth Dan James Fletcher and third Dan Jason Boland travelled from Emu Park to take the training session at the John Muir Sports Centre.
The Warwick students were shown a range of skills from board-breaking, sparring and their patterns.
Fletcher said it was the second time he had visited the Warwick club.
"We came about three months ago, and I have seen a lot of improvement," he said.
"Out here they don't get as much experience and it is great to be able to help out."
Fletcher said the art of tae kwon do was about self-defence not fighting.
"We don't teach people to fight, we teach them to defend themselves," he said.
He said this was the main reason many parents chose to get their kids involved in the sport.
"Most parents get their kids involved because of the discipline and self-defence side," Fletcher said.
"Weeks or months later parents come back and say 'what have you done to my kids?'.
"They are so much better at home, their grades have improved and they have more respect."
The Warwick Tae Kwon Do Club trains on Mondays and Thursdays at the John Muir Sports Centre.
