Time to recognise top volunteers with award nomination

SPORTS AWARDS: The fifth annual Condamine Sports Club Volunteer of the Year will be named at the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Junior Sports Star of the Year dinner on March 19.

Nominations are open now for volunteers who have made a major contribution to sport.

While volunteer work down the years in all sports is taken into account by the sports star judges in selecting the overall award winner, the $500 winner's cheque goes to the club of their choice.

Nominations don't have to be made by a club but all nominations should be in consultation with the main club the nominee is involved with.

Condamine Sports Club president Ross Bell said the volunteer awards were a chance to recognise all the work done behind the scenes in sport in Warwick.

"We have had outstanding nominees in the past who have put years of hard work into sport. Without the volunteers, there wouldn't be sports clubs in the country,” he said.

The presentations to all nominees and the overall winner will be at the 25th annual junior sports awards dinner on March 19 at the Hawker Rd Function Centre. The junior and volunteer awards dinner is totally separate to the senior dinner on February 19.

The overall winner of the junior award will receive $500 from the Warwick Credit Union and the Doc Bodimeade Encouragement Award winner $250 from the Condamine Sports Club. Each monthly winner will receive a trophy.

Tickets for the junior/volunteer dinner will go on sale on February 20.

The first six nominees will be accepted and it is hoped to finalise nominations by the end of February.
