Timely storm warning for those near the shoreline
STORM season has officially arrived and those planning to spend their summer days by the shoreline are being urged to take care.
Owner of AGs licensing Andrew Gale said he had witnessed many "near-misses" and was fearful a boating tragedy would soon hit Warwick.
Mr Gale said the main concerns were drink drivers, boating in storms, not wearing life jackets and neglected boats.
The former water policeman became acutely aware of the dangers when a storm hit Leslie Dam about three weeks ago.
"The smart people who were pulling their boats out when the storms came over had to wait because people were trying to get their boats into the water," Mr Gale said.
"Boating is supposed to be fun and going out on the water in the middle of an electrical storm isn't my idea of fun."
Mr Gale also urged boat owners to make sure their boat was mechanically sound before taking it out.
"If your boat has been sitting in the shed since last Christmas, you should definitely get it checked out before taking it out," he said.
And while it may seem like a no-brainer, Mr Gale said many people were not wearing life jackets while out on the water.
"People say they will put it on if they're going to crash but if you had that much notice, you wouldn't crash in the first place," he said.
