Tip for Warwick horse in race 3 at Allman Park today
RACING: Eastern Downs Racing Association secretary Jim Costello has provided Daily News readers with tips on today's races at Allman Park.
While he takes no responsibility for his selections, he gives punters a few tips on things to consider.
Race 1, 1.18pm: Peter Watt Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate 800m (Tips for places 1-3, numbers 5, 6, 12)
Avasa (No.5) is trained by Jackie Crompton in Toowomba and is my tip to win. The four-year-old mare is by Falvelon and has been on the pace with a second and fourth in Toowoomba in her last two starts. The mare is part owned by Jackie and her husband Wayne.
Trainer Peter Overell hails from Biddeston and his horse Cocktailsallaround (No.6) is a good chance for a place.
I throw in Tedder Avenue (No.12), trained by Kevin Kemp in Toowoomba for third. The filly is owned by the Gibson family from Allora. Tedder Avenue is by Real Saga and will start for the first time today at Allman Park.
Race 2, 1.53pm: Ted Weier Memorial Class B Handicap 1100m (2, 1, 7): My tip is Exceedingly Kool (No.2) trained in Dalby by Grant Arnold. The gelding appears to have the best form of any horse in the race but time will tell.
Destiny's Sister (No.1) is my tip for second. The horse is trained by Steven Hardy who is back in town for a little while. Hardy travelled from the Northern Rivers to train a winner in Warwick last year.
Darryl Knight trains Mighty Roller (No.7) at the Allman Park track and is first up from a spell after racing well first up in his last campaign.
Race 3, 2.28pm: Mick Rawlins Memorial BenchMark 65 Handicap 1100m (1, 5, 6): My tip is Starwood (No.1) trained by John Collins in Warwick. The gelding performs well on the track and this company is a bit below his last couple of runs.
Noor Dropper (No.5) is now trained by Kevin Kemp in Toowoomba and is a consistent performer.
Champagne Warrior (No.6) is another horse trained by Jackie Crompton and has had a couple of wins in the country but this race will be a bit harder.
Race 4, 3.08pm: Trevor Locke Memorial BenchMark 55 Handicap 1350m (3, 2, 1): I struggled with this race as the form is even across most of the starters.
There is no standout but I am going for Great Grats (No.3) to defeat the Kellie Monckton trained Fleurieu (No.2) with Dazzy's Day (No.1) third.
I would like to see Kellie train the winner of a race named in memory of her father, the late Trevor Locke.
Great Grats is trained at Oakey by Bradley Hudson who regularly brings horses to Warwick.
Dazy's Day is the top chance for third. The mare is trained at Nanango by Glenn Richardson.
Race 5: 3.48pm: Hector Hockings Memorial Class B Handicap 1500m (8, 1, 3): My tip Get Outa Utah (No.8) is trained at Deagon in Brisbane and came fourth last start at the Sunshine Coast.
I am going for Sheza Good Girl (No.1) for second. Ron Goltz is the rider only a week after returning for an extended break due to injury.
Choice Son (No.3) is trained in Toowoomba by Rex Lipp and is my tip for third. Lipp is a good trainer but on form the gelding might struggle to win. But who would know.
