Title win a boost for driver's dream
WARWICK driver Matt Campbell has a dream to drive in the V8 Supercars series in Australia.
At the weekend, he took a further step with victory in the Formula Ford class in the Queensland Motor Racing Championships, his first state title win.
If consistency is crucial in motor racing, Campbell has it winning nine of the 12 races in the championships and being placed in the others.
"The car ran well all season," Campbell said.
Sunshine Coast motor industry business consultant Greg Fahey owns the car Campbell raced.
"Matt did a test drive with five-times Australian drivers champion Paul Stokell and you could see the potential," Fahey said.
"He is more polished this year after driving in harder racing in three rounds of the national championships.
"Matt needs funding to compete in all national championship rounds next year, only two of the current crop of V8 drivers haven't graduated from the Formula Ford class."
It costs $200,000 to fund a national championship season so the young Warwick driver won't be saying no to any sponsorship offers.
"If I can compete in the national championships next year, maybe I could get a test drive for the V8 or development series after another two years," Campbell said.
The motorcycle sportsmen will race at Morgan Park this weekend.
