Tonnes of help for Longreach families
THE message to the struggling Longreach community is clear - help is on its way.
Three separate convoys packed full of much-needed supplies have left the Rose City this week for the drought-stricken town, as the big dry continues to impact the farming community.
A massive 580 toys donated by the Warwick Mower Centre, 250 boxes of food, 100 bales of hay and several tonnes of pumpkins and watermelons are all on their way to Longreach.
Community Disaster Relief board member Amanda Nothdurft said six semi-trailer loads of hay had already been sent to appreciative farmers.
A paddock of hay due to be cut in several weeks time will provide a further 1200 round bales of hay for Longreach farmers.
"We had a big trailer load of food boxes that Maritta took out on Tuesday," she said.
"Three loads went out on Tuesday and four loads are heading out this morning."
The Community Disaster Relief Van team are well truly prepared for a busy trip ahead, with four huge days of sorting and distributing essentials goods to property across the Longreach district.
"Tonight is a Rotary meeting we've been invited and throughout the day Maritta and her team will be sorting out boxes," Mrs Nothdurft said.
"Friday we'll be sorting boxes and Saturday we'll be visiting a fair few properties to deliver them."
