Toowoomba photographer starts blog inspired by HONY
TOOWOOMBA stylist and film student Jade Courtney is on a mission to capture the quirk of the Garden City.
Inspired by the famous blog and best-selling book Humans of New York, Humans in Toowoomba is a Facebook page where you can find street portraits and interviews with city residents.
Ms Courtney is the stylist for vintage store Alice in Arcade Land. It was there she found herself motivated to tell the stories of the interesting characters she met on a daily basis.
"I enjoy the experience of meeting these amazing people,' she said.
"I meet them every day in the shop where I work but there is nothing I love more than showing people these funky characters. For me it's a joy. I just want to see these people celebrated more than anything."
"We are embracing our little city's quirky side; our wonderful artistic community and people who don't fit into a box. In the words of Alice (in Wonderland): we're all mad here."
Ms Courtney's first subject was 18-year-old Ella Heckendorf.
She posed in front of First Coat artworks as Ms Courtney hoped to incorporate the festival into her project.
During Ms Heckendorf's photo shoot, Ms Courtney learnt the fashionista's style was an evolution of the Lolita look and she also had great dance moves.
"The beautiful thing about fashion is there is so many different styles. I don't need to be confined to one," Ms Heckendorf said.
