Top barrel racers in Australia in Warwick this weekend
BARREL RACING: Moree cowgirl Wendy Caban will be one of the favourites for the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society barrel racing event this weekend at the Warwick Showgrounds.
The society is holding round 1 of a Warwick Barrel Racing Gold Buckle Series of four events run under the Australian Barrel Horse Association.
This weekend's two-day barrel racing event at the Warwick Showgrounds is one of seven run under the association in four states this month.
It will be the first stand-along barrel racing event organised by the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society.
There are 10 buckles to be presented this weekend to the winners of the four open divisions, four junior divisions and buckles for the 11-and-under age group and the classic, a barrel racing competition between riders with horses aged, four, five and six.
Caban is a previous barrel racing winner at the Warwick Rodeo and won Australian Professional Rodeo Association all around titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011-2012. She has also won two barrel racing titles and one in breakaway roping.
Tina Ross is a past rookie champion in the National Rodeo Association and will be one of a number of riders from Warwick with a real shot at glory.
Ross said organisers appreciated the support from local businesses which had paid for buckles and provided feed, merchandise and other prizes for the event.
