Top batting the key for Warwick in win against Lockyer

CRICKET: Tom Doherty top scored with an unbeaten 40, took two catches and had bowling figures of 1-9 as Warwick beat Lockyer in under-12 cricket at Queens Park yesterday.

Warwick is unbeaten after two games.

Lockyer batted first and third in an age group where quarter cricket is played. Each team bats for up to 50 overs but their innings is split in two.

In the 39th over, Lockyer was dismissed for 148 with Morgan Bourke taking 3-13 and Jakob Butler 3-18. Tyrone Cruice took 2-14. Two of the bowlers, Morgan and Tyrone, took wickets with successive balls but missed out on a hat-trick.

Tom top scored with an unbeaten 40 and was well supported by Josh Hagenbach with 36 and Morgan 32 not out.

The players voted for man of the match and Tom was the Warwick winner this week.

Lockyer scored an easy win against Warwick in the U14 grade.

Brock Patti and Cooper Tate-Roche were two of the leading scorers for Warwick in a total of 132. Lockyer scored the winning runs well before the end of the 50 overs.

Warwick hosts Toowoomba in both age groups in Warwick on Sunday.
