Top drag racing on at Morgan Park this weekend

DRAG RACING: Up to 200 Volkswagens will start arriving in Warwick today for the annual VW Warwick weekend.

This weekend's drag racing meeting is exclusively for VWs and will be the biggest meeting of its king in Australia this year.

Warwick District Drag Racing Association vice-president John Loy said of the 200 VW expected in Warwick, more than 100 would compete on the drag strip.

"There is always a lot of variety in the VW's, we get lots of Kombi vans,” Loy said.

"Some of the VWs which won't be racing will go in the Show 'n' Shine at the dragway on Sunday.”

For the first time, a Dyno event will be held on the Friday night at the dragway to measure the horsepower of the vehicles.

Loy said the association would have more than 25 volunteers helping out at the weekend.

"We run the event in conjunction with Craig Hughes from VW Magazine Australia,” Loy said.

"Craig hails from Brisbane and has been involved in the VW Warwick weekend since it started a decade ago.”

The VWs will be in the Warwick CBD adjacent to Leslie Park for public inspection from 9am to 11.30am Saturday before heading to the dragway. Action goes to Sunday.
