Top drivers started careers at Morgan Park Raceway

TUESDAY TANTRUM with Gerard Walsh

GREAT to see Morgan Park Raceway is being resurfaced and that means there will be even

more reason for drivers and riders to head to Warwick and spend their money on the Southern Downs.

Every road or street needs resealing and it is the same with every motor racing circuit.

It might only be every 10 or 15 years but the reality is some of the money paid to race on the track ends up helping pay for the next resurfacing.

The last surface is the one where it all started for Matt Campbell and now he will mix it with the best Porsche drivers in the world this year from Monaco to Monza and Mexico.

Matt isn't the only big timer to start at Morgan Park. IndyCar world championship winner Will Power started at Morgan Park and since he has headed overseas, his father Bob has kept the Power family name going at Morgan Park Raceway.

Last week, Southern Downs Regional Council mayor Tracy Dobie spoke to me about moves to increase co-operation with Ipswich council that will also involved the two motorsport precincts which both areas are proud of.

Warwick is the horsepower capital of Australia and proud of it.

Pollie bats well

DURING the last cricket season, David Littleproud vowed he would play an odd game of cricket for Inglewood if elected as the Member for Maranoa.

He has kept to his word and went further to top score with 65 in the game at Keith K.O. Masters Oval at Allora on Saturday. On this form, David should make any Politicians v Press game in Canberra.

His score wasn't a surprise, David has scored runs down the years and is also a good keeper.

I remember 40 years ago when Warwick played Chinchilla and David's father Brian was regarded as the batsman to dismiss. Brian represented Queensland Country.
