Top Legacy golf day
GOLF: The Warwick Police Charity Day Golf yesterday wasn't just about the game, it was to raise funds to support the families of police officers who had died while serving the QPS.
Regional assistant commissioner Tony Wright led a contingent of Toowoomba officers who made the trek to Warwick.
"We all know families who are benefiting from Police Legacy and had friends in the police service who have passed away," Wright said.
There were 126 players and Warwick officer-in-charge Jamie Deacon said he was grateful for the support of the players and the sponsors of the day.
As for the play, regular golfer Deacon reckoned putting was the best part of his game yesterday.
When pressed for his best shot, he listed a putt from 8m which went in.
Deacon has played in legacy days for the past five years. He travelled from the Toowoomba station to play before his transfer to Warwick.
"It was a great day to mix with other police officers and the community."
Phill Daley is the Warwick Scenes of Crime officer and didn't mind admitting he had trouble on the 18th.
"I took four chips to get on the green," he said.
The 18th wasn't the last hole for Daley and his team. The teams started at the same time on 18 different holes so the 18th was the fourth last for Daley's group.
The Warwick Sporters Golf Club plays each Wednesday but is a long-time backer of police legacy and was involved yesterday.
The Jumpers and Jazz open single stableford day for men and women is on Saturday with prizes for winners, runners-up, pins and best-dressed buggy.
