Top medal harvest to cap Warwick athletics season
ATHLETICS: Zac Caterson, Justyn Rogers and Ben Lyons won six medals between them as six Warwick Little Athletics Centre members headed to the state championships to finish the season.
A week after winning gold at the nationals in club athletics, Zac won the discus, shotput and javelin in his age group. His winning put of 16.39m with the 3kg shot was a new record.
Justyn Rogers has starred in school athletics with Warwick State High School and was on the winner’s podium at the state championshps when he won the triple jump in 12.31m.
He was second in 100m hurdles in a time of 14.4 seconds.
Ben Lyons has previously won medals at state and national level and add another in little athletics when he was third in the javelin after bettering 33m. He was sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.45m
Natalie Webb won her heat and was third fastest into the final of the 100m. She finished fifth in the 100m final in 13.55.
Saxon Charles competed for Darling Downs in the 1500m and 800m and finished 8th in the 1500m in a time of four minutes, 51 seconds and was 11th in the 800m.
The Warwick Little Athletics Centre has appointed Sarah Jenner as the new centre manager for the 2016-2017 season.
Jenner said the plan was to continue centre days at 3pm each Sunday during summer. The first day will be September 11 at 3pm at Hamilton Oval. Carmen Richards is assistant centre manager, Tim Kajewski treasurer, Deb Sims secretary and Lisa Fitzgerald publicity officer along with parents in other roles.
