Top national championships for polocrosse according to president
POLOCROSSE: Australian Polocrosse Association president Rodney Geppert was delighted to see fans new to the game at the Polocrosse Nationals at Albury.
The national president is from the Warwick club and said he spoke to families from Albury who were at their first carnival at the weekend.
“People came for the first time on Saturday and were returning on the Sunday,” Geppert said.
He was happy with the crowd numbers at the nationals and the organisation of the carnival by the Albury Holbrook club.
It will be all roads leading to Perth for the 2018 nationals.
On the field, New South Wales again had the most success with seven victories in the various grades. Queensland won the under-21 mixed and U21 men, a good indication Queensland will be even better in the senior grades in years to come.
Winning players from the Southern Downs were Brayden Beck (Warwick) and Zac O’Leary (Cunningham) in U21 men along with Anthony O’Leary (Cunningham), Kelsey Rowland (Warwick) and Clifton resident Grace Young (Chinchilla club) in U21 mixed.
The Queensland senior women’s team was one of the youngest senior teams at the carnival and narrowly missed the final so will be stronger in two years time. Queensland was runners-up in senior men’s and senior mixed.
New South Wales made eight finals, Queensland six, Western Australia three and Victoria was in the U21 men’s final.
Age group teams to tour South Africa will be announced this week.
