Top player will be missing from BRL grand final
RUGBY LEAGUE: Tenterfield inside back Coedie Tandy will miss Sunday's Border Rugby League grand final after being suspended for three weeks following the preliminary final last Saturday.
Tandy was found guilty on a grade 2 contrary conduct charge and grade 2 striking charge and is suspended for three matches. He will miss the grand final and two matches next season.
The Tenterfield Tigers attended a BRL judiciary hearing on Wednesday night and sought a downgrading of the striking charge from grade 3 to grade 1 and the player pleaded not guilty to the contrary conduct charge.
The charges follow a melee on the field in the preliminary final and a small altercation on the way to the dressing room after Tandy was sin-binned. There were no charges laid against the Stanthorpe player who was sin-binned from the same melee.
The referee lodged a report with the league on the incidents.
Tenterfield will now be without one of their best players for the A-grade grand final clash against Inglewood at 2pm Sunday at the Macintyre Sports Complex at Inglewood.
Both Tenterfield and Inglewood will be seeking their fourth premiership wins in the BRL and aiming to win the flag in the 20th year of the league.
In the early game at 12.30pm Sunday, the unbeaten Tenterfield team will play Wallangarra in the ladies leaguetag grand final.
