Top three glamping spots around Gladstone

DON'T care for hole-in-the-ground camping? Here's our pick of where to go for the premium glamping experience in the Gladstone region:

1 Lochenbar Station

Why it's great: An affordable farm stay that caters for all ages, Lochenbar Station provides the country experience with a homely feel. The station caters for all families as well as the young and adventurous.

Whether you're after a quad bike ride or 4WD property tour, a goat muster or horse ride, goat rodeo, trap shooting, mechanical bull riding, whip cracking, outback dancing or sitting back and relaxing, they have it all.

Enjoy the atmosphere around the Wagon Bar in the evening, or around the campfire, with whip cracking, outback dancing - you can join in or just watch the other guests riding the mechanical bull. Or you could sit back around the pool or in the surrounding park lands and take in the country air.

How to get there: A 1 hour, 45 minute trip from Gladstone. Drive through Calliope to Biloela on the Dawson Highway. Go through Biloela's only set of traffic lights, take the next right between KFC and the information centre, on Valentine Plains Road.

2 Myella Farmstay

Why it's great: This is an authentic experience, a fully operational farm. It's roughing it without roughing it, with brilliant food and numerous outback experiences.

Myella brings you back to nature, reminds you what it important in life.

The ensuite rooms have been recently renovated so you will be comfortable.

Relax by the campfire, on the hammocks, in the pool or with a glass of wine on the verandah.

Activities are on offer every day, the best being the horse riding, motorbike and 4WD tours.

How to get there: A two-hour trip from Gladstone. Travel to Biloela and turn in the direction of Rockhampton. Travel 29km to Jambin and continue 8km. Turn left towards Goovigen, go 7km and turn right towards Rannes. After another 1km turn left towards Rannes. Turn left at the intersection after 19km, then right after another 3km. After 18km you'll see the mailbox for Myella Farm stay - it's a strange white horse.

Once known as the Agnes Water Beach Caravan Park and now under new management, the holiday park is on the north-facing Agnes Water Beach on the Discovery Coast of Queensland, Australia - the perfect place to stay for access to the Great Barrier Reef, hidden beaches and secret fishing spots.

How to get there: Head south from Gladstone on the Bruce Hwy until Miriam Vale. Turn left at Tableland Rd. When you reach a T-intersection, turn left again onto Round Hill Rd. Continue to Agnes Water and turn left towards the beach. Follow the signage to Agnes Water Beach Holidays.
