Total fire ban in south west as house engulfed in flames

A TOTAL fire ban that was scheduled to expire this weekend has been extended as firefighters battled a house fire west of Toowoomba overnight.

The ban has been extended to the local council areas of Toowoomba, Southern Downs, Western Downs, Maranoa and Goondiwindi until midnight next Tuesday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said four crews had attended an unoccupied home on Montrose St, Montrose after reports about 10.30pm the two-storey property was fully engulfed in a fire.

The fire was brought under control just after midnight.
