Tough girls set for extreme thrills
SOME girls shy away at the thought of a broken nail, but for this young Warwick thrill seeker, she is not only as tough as they come, but broken bones are all part of the excitement.
Emily Taylor will this weekend go head-to-head with the boys in an extreme four-wheel-drive competition at the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds, where the aim of the game is to navigate over obstacles - boulders, tree trunks, car wrecks and the like - in the shortest amount of time.
Driver Ms Taylor and her navigator Katie Ireland from Brisbane will flaunt their hot pink Landcruiser as they compete for the title.
"This will be my second year of competing, but I've been driving a 4WD since I was 15," Ms Taylor said.
She said the sport appealed to her after spending years in the passenger seat with her parents as a young child.
"I've been to these kinds of extreme events with my parents for most of my life so naturally I wanted to give it a go myself," Ms Taylor said.
But, extreme 4x4 is not for the faint-hearted.
"It challenges you in a number of ways. You have to be a confident and skilled driver and know how to listen to your navigator, but you have to be ready for a few bruises and scratches because it is a very bumpy ride," she said.
Eight teams from across the state will compete in the challenge which started yesterday and goes until Sunday.
