Tourism Qld joins forces with airline

TOURISM Queensland today signed a cooperative marketing agreement with Singapore Airlines to promote Queensland through the airline's extensive international travel network.

Minister for Tourism, Manufacturing and Small Business Jan Jarratt said the new four-year agreement, which takes effect today, would see Tourism Queensland and Singapore Airlines jointly fund a range of tourism promotion activities aimed at luring more international travellers to Queensland.

"The agreement formalises the cooperative marketing activity currently being undertaken by the two organisations, including promotional campaigns, media and travel agent tours of Queensland and international roadshows," Ms Jarratt said.

"One of the first initiatives to feature as part of the agreement will be a marketing campaign featuring South East Queensland destinations targeted at families in Singapore to begin in mid-August.

"Singapore Airlines is an important aviation partner with access to a range of key and emerging international markets.

"The airline is the second largest international carrier in Australia and operates 19 weekly services into Brisbane from across Europe and Asia.

"Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia also recently announced an agreement which proposes the airlines codeshare on their international and domestic flights.

"If the agreement is approved it would make it even easier for international visitors travelling with Singapore Airlines to have direct access to a range of Queensland destinations."

Ms Jarratt said the agreement would explore new ways to jointly promote tourism to Queensland.

"Singapore Airlines currently allows more than 280,000 potential international travellers to access Queensland each year," she said.

"We're keen to see this number rise and Singapore Airlines has the network to help us achieve that goal."

Mr Tan Chik Quee, Singapore Airlines' Senior Vice President Marketing, said that this partnership with Tourism Queensland reflected the Airline's long-term commitment to the Australian market.

"Singapore Airlines is privileged to continue our robust partnership with Tourism Queensland. We have been working with Tourism Queensland since 2005 and are confident our extensive global network and premium service proposition will help attract even more international visitors to the state," said Mr Tan.
