Tourism showing potential
THE Rose City is bracing itself for a booming tourist season this autumn, with plenty of events to tempt every traveller.
Warwick Visitor Information Centre Supervisor Charee Aspinall said they expected to blitz previous tourism figures after recording high figures in April 2010.
"Businesses in the Southern Downs are looking forward to a fantastic year, with Warwick hosting a number of events which will fill our town in the build up and over Easter," she said.
From February until the end of April, the Southern Downs region will host events such as the Ultra Golden Country Music Festival, motor sports in Morgan Park, Stanthorpe's Apple and Grape Festival, the Easter Fair, the Polocrosse Nationals and the Orienteering Championships.
Warwick Events CEO Tracy Vellacott said the peak tourist season, typically around Easter, looked promising.
"We are optimistic that our tourism season will surpass last year, particularly on the back of the natural disasters we experienced," she said.
Ms Vellacott said the upcoming horse sports events would draw tourists from interstate, especially the 3-day equestrian event, which is a pre-qualifier for Olympic selection.
