Tourists rescued from floodwater

BREAKING NEWS: TWO tourists attempting to cross a flooded road at Texas had to be rescued early this morning after their utility became stuck.

Around 1am two Gold Coast men tried to cross Gibralter-Mundowney Road about 10 kilometres from town and were quickly stranded by rapidly flowing water.

The men, aged 55 and 42, climbed out of the cab of the ute and into the tray and contacted police by mobile phone.

The men were rescued by a three-man Texas State Emergency Service (SES) swift water rescue team around 3am and transported to Texas Hospital for observation.

The rescued pair, who had been staying on a local property belonging to friends, were suffering from the wet and cold conditions.

It is understood up to nine inches of rain in the area overnight had caused a flash flood in a normally dry creek bed, which was quickly washed away from beneath the vehicle after it became stuck

Police have warned motorists to not enter flooded roadways and to travel with extreme caution in the wet conditions.

In the Daily News print edition tomorrow: Full details of the dramatic rescue.
