UPDATE: Generous donation for Brown family

UPDATE, 5PM: AN offer of furniture from the Gold Coast is just part of the support offered today for the Brown family in the wake of the disastrous fire on Anzac Day.

The offer came after the story calling for community support was read this morning on www.warwickdailynews.com.au.

Former Sheffield Shield cricket opening batsman and well-loved community volunteer Wilf Brown lost his life in the fire and now the community is rallying behind his wife Leonore and daughter Jane.

The family lost virtually everything in the fire.

Donations have started flowing into an account set up at the Warwick Credit Union to help Leonore and Jane and a large amount of clothing will be passed on to the family this afternoon after being left at the Daily News to assist them in their time of need.

Mr Abood coached a Warwick Cowboys under-18 team to a premiership and was a long time A-grade halfback before moving to the Gold Coast where he is manager of the Beachcomber International Resort in Griffith St, Coolangatta.

"The resort has some good quality furniture we would like to donate to the family," he said.

"There are couches, dining room tables and chairs, lounge chairs, entertainment units, bedside tables, blankets and pillows," he said.

More donations of clothes and any household items can be left at the Daily News.

Monetary donations to BSB 817001, Account No. 63268, at the Warwick Credit Union.

Anyone can send money by funds transfer from their bank account or by making a deposit at any WCU branch.

There is strong community support to help his wife Leonore and daughter Jane at this tough time.

The Brown family were always on the front foot to support sport, the community and anyone in need.

Monetary donations can be made to a special Warwick Credit Union account - BSB 817001; Account No. 63268.

Anyone can send money by funds transfer from their bank account or by making a deposit at any WCU branch.

8AM: LEONORE Brown is overcome by the level of help she and daughter Jane have received in the three days since a fire claimed the life of their husband and father, Wilf Brown.

Mr Brown, 85, lost his life in a fire at their Gore St home around 2am on Anzac Day.

Yesterday a public campaign was launched to help the family which has lost virtually everything.

"It is hard enough to lose everything, let alone losing Wilf," Mrs Brown said.

While the family lost all their clothes and most of their household items, a few finds in the ruins of their home have been a little bright light in a terrible few days.

"We found two of Wilf's favourite cricket photos in a drawer of a large wash stand of his grandmother's on the front porch," Mrs Brown said.

"I couldn't believe how ironic it was to find the photos."

She also found some vases of her grandmother's from 100 years ago.

It is possible two or three pieces of furniture may be able to be restored but most were destroyed.

The fire also took the life of the family dog, Ky, which was found close to Wilf in the house.

"Wilf loved Ky and it was comforting that they were together," she said.

One small positive is that the family cat Shasta has returned after fleeing the fire.

"It is hard to focus on reality, it is still a bit of a nightmare," she said.

The community can help the Brown family by either leaving clothes, blankets and household items at the Daily News office, at 50 Albion St, or call 4660 1355 with offers of larger items.

Or anyone can send money by funds transfer from their bank account or by making a deposit at any WCU branch.
