Towns gear up for big 2012
AS THE Warwick Show Society gathers momentum for its 2012 show, some of the smaller towns in the Southern Downs are quickly counting down the days until their community events.
The Stanthorpe Agricultural Society will hold one of the first shows in Queensland, from February 3-4.
Included in the events are a prime cattle sale, show jumping, animal nursery, home-made beer and wine judging and arts and crafts. Some of the fresh local produce from local growers will also be on display.
The Stanthorpe Show will be followed by the Allora Show on February 10-11, which will also see a range of classes and entries.
Visitors will be kept busy between the dressage and bull riding, to admiring the fine arts and floral art sections.
The Killarney Show Society, scheduled for February 24-26, will hold its special 100th show this year.
As reported in the Daily News last month, Governor-General Quentin Bryce will be guest of honour and will pull on her boots to officially open the show.
A celebratory ball will be held the week before to mark 100 years of the Killarney Show.
