Tractor rollover claims life

A TRAGIC farming accident claimed the life of a 90 year-old retired Cottonvale orchardist last night.

The body of the man - whose identity is yet to be released by police - was found by his son pinned underneath a tractor late last night.

Stanthorpe Police Sergeant Shane Gleeson said police arrived on the scene about 11pm after the man’s son called to report the discovery.

“He had been pulling up trees and the tractor rolled on him crushing his left leg and lower back,” Sgt Gleeson said.

“But he wasn’t found until later in the night.

“There are no suspicious circumstances, it’s just a tragic accident.”

Because the property was located on the NSW side of the border, Tenterfield Police were called to investigate the scene.

“Stanthorpe police attended pending the arrival of Tenterfield police,” Sgt Gleeson said.

Police from New England Local Area Command will prepare a report for the information of the NSW Coroner.

The Cottonvale orchard is located about 60km north of Tenterfield.

Inquiries reveal the man was last seen about 9am yesterday
