Trainer back on home turf on Monday

TOOWOOMBA trainer Michael Nolan has horses starting at Allman Park on Monday, the track where his career as a thoroughbred trainer started.

This week, he told me he first trained a few harness horses and a galloper or two with Neil Coy at Junabee before taking the gallopers to Allman Park for fast work.

It should be an outstanding meeting on Boxing Day with some top trainers in town. Being a TAB meeting, Warwick will be advertised around Australia.

Horse falls

AS one of the celebrity riders in the barrel race at the New Year's Eve rodeo today week, my mind has gone back to a couple of horse falls down the years.

I recall one near the kurrajong tree and another down a sandy hill in the Greymare waterhole paddock on the farm.

I have never been in a barrel race but I suppose a mad cow or two has turned sharply on me so the action will be similar. Organisers have arranged a horse for me and my target time is 35 seconds, the professionals do the course in 18 seconds.

It's great to see the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society putting on a rodeo on New Year's Eve. We have a great facility, let's use it.

Track work

A MONTH from now, odds are Morgan Park Raceway will be re-surfaced and ready for another year of motorsport action.

The new surface will be appreciated by bike riders.

Best wishes and God's blessings for Christmas to all. Drive carefully.
