Trainer confident of good showing at home in TAB meet
RACING: Warwick trainer John Collins is confident his five-year-old gelding Starwood can run well in the benchmark 65 1200m race at Allman Park on Easter Monday.
Starwood won at Goondiwindi last Saturday and Collins said he rarely backed a horse up nine days later.
"The meeting on Monday is right on my doorstep and he has drawn barrier 2 so there is no reason not to start him,” Collins said.
"He will be a good chance and has done well since Goondiwindi.
"The extra prizemoney at a TAB meeting is an extra attraction.”
Skye Bogenhuber is the jockey for Starwood in Race 4 on Monday
Collins said there were good nominations for all seven races.
Fundraiser for riders
THE Warwick Turf Club will have some money tins at Allman Park on Monday so race patrons, owners and trainers can support injured track riders Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm.
Both are in hospital in Brisbane after a track riding accident in Toowoomba on Saturday.
Warwick trainer Len Bryant said he hoped the racing community could get behind the two jockeys.
"Ben Saunders was an outstanding apprentice,” Bryant said.
"He rode on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington and not too many jockeys can say that. I know Wade Clasohm has ridden for some Warwick trainers. They will need a lot of support.”
Club president Phil Grant said he hoped there was good support for the riders on the day.
"There is no industry without track riders, a lot of our club members know the riders,” he said.
Donations for the track riders and their families are welcome on Monday.
