Trainer heading to Warwick with Allora Cup starter and hope

TOOWOOMBA trainer Tom Dougall is counting on seven-year-old mare Dangerous Danica to go the distance as he looks to claim his first win in the Railway Hotel Allora Cup at Allman Park on Saturday.

"Her form hasn't been outstanding and she does struggle a bit at the cup distance,” Dougall said.

"Fifteen hundred metres is as far as she likes.”

Dougall is a regular visitor to the track and has won in Warwick but is yet to train an Allora Cup winner.

"We have had a couple of placings in the Warwick Cup,” he said.

"We will be in Warwick to do our best with Dangerous Danica. She is our only starter in Warwick on Saturday. It is a bit quiet for us at the moment.”

Dougall said the quality of the Allman Park track would make for good racing.

"The track has been good for quite some time,” he said.

The highest rated horse in the Cup is the Ben Robinson-trained Champagne Rock.

The 10-year-old gelding has two wins, two fourths and a seventh in his past five starts.

Champagne Rock and Noreena are likely to attract plenty of support after producing wins at their last starts.

Noreena is trained in Warwick by Garry Schwenke and prior to her last-start win, had produced two fifths.

Schwenke and fellow Warwick trainer Mick Hemmings have each lodged three nominations for the five-event card.

Killarney trainer Les Clarke has nominated Drum Master in the Class 3 Plate.

The five-year-old gelding has three seconds, a fourth and sixth in his last five races and the trainer will be hoping he is due for a win.

Weights for the five-event card will be declared Wednesday.

Acceptances must be in by 10am Thursday and riders declared before 1pm Thursday.
