Trainer tips bright future for Rose City boxer

BOXING: Toowoomba boxing trainer Brendon Smith watched Rose City boxer Jake Wyllie for the first time at Smithy's Fight Night and was impressed.

"I had heard a lot about Jake and from what we had heard about him as a boxer and the way he carried himself, it was the ideal decision for him to captain Country against City in the Brayd Smith Cup at the weekend,” Brendon said.

"Jake was very impressive not only in his boxing but the way he proved to be a true captain.

"He impressed all of our group at Smithy's Gym and the crowd of 1500. Jake is definitely a star of the future.

"Jake is a great young man as well as a boxer and a real gentleman.

"Hats off to his coach Damien Lawler and his boxing club. We would be honoured if he would captain Country again next year.”

Wyllie won two of the major trophies on the night, including fight of the night.
