Trinkets has strong chance at Allman Park

TRAINER Richie Stephenson has his fingers crossed six-year-old mare Golden Trinkets can win at 1200m in the Hope's Body Repairs Country Queensland Showcase BenchMark 79 race on Friday at Allman Park.

Golden Trinkets has won 10 races for $190,000 prize money, including three "in town" at Eagle Farm and Doomben.

All of her wins have been between 1000m-1100m but Stephenson believe she has a strong chance on a flat track like Warwick to win her first at 1200m.

"The prize money is good," he said.

Stephenson is definitely a friend of the farmers as he wants rain in the lead-up to the Boxing Day meeting.

"She loves it when the track is wet," he said.

Golden Trinkets was fifth at Caloundra in an open flying handicap two weeks ago.

"She had a good run at Caloundra but has never won there, we hope she can in Warwick."

Friday will be the first start on the Warwick track for Golden Trinkets who predominately races on Toowoomba, Ipswich, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Caloundra tracks.

Stephenson has been training horses for 45 years and remembers winning race after race in Warwick.

"I haven't been to Warwick for a few years now," he said.

"Warwick is lucky to have a TAB meeting, there is more prize money, more betting and fans can watch the races on television.

"I predominately nominate horses for the TAB meetings."

There is a sprinkling of horses from Warwick trainers at a meeting expected to attract thousands of fans keen to catch up with family and friends, many they haven't seen for some time.

Gates open at 11am and there will be large number of bookies fielding on local and metropolitan meetings as well as the on-course TAB.
