Trio do Warwick proud at football carnival
HARRY McMahon has no doubt 10 weeks of training before the state championships improved his football skills and he wants to play in more carnivals.
Alix Weatherstone (The Scots PGC College), Stan Bain (Allora State School) and Harry McMahon (Assumption) were the three players from the Southern Downs who played for Darling Downs in the 10-12 years state school football championships at Brendale in Brisbane.
The championships finished this week and both the girls and boys regional teams had their share of wins.
In girls, Darling Downs beat South West 3-0, South Coast 1-0 and drew 0-all with Metropolitan North and 2-all with Metropolitan West.
Darling Downs finished sixth in girls with the highlight the first win against South Coast for seven years.
Alix was involved in the lead-up work to some of the Darling Downs goals.
Harry McMahon said the best win of the boys team was 6-0 against South West.
"We also had two draws during the carnival," he said.
"I was involved in setting up one goal and Stan set up quite a few goals and scored from a penalty."
Harry played right striker and said it was a good experience to play in the state championships.
"I want to go again, the 10 weeks of training in Toowoomba helped improve all my skills," he said.
