TRL set to be stronger after off season recruitment

RUGBY LEAGUE: Warwick, Wattles and Goondiwindi are expected to field stronger teams in the 2018 TRL A-grade competition.

TRL media manager Andrew O'Brien said with all the recruitment going on, he expected the competition to be much stronger this season.

"Warwick, Wattles and Goondiwindi have all recruited well,” O'Brien said.

The Warwick Cowboys have signed former NRL Coach of the Year Phil Economidis as coach of the A-grade.

Wattles has signed former club player Travis Burns, a 175 game NRL and Super League veteran, as player coach for A grade.

The Cowboys have signed two former players with Queensland Cup experience, Dan Murphy and Ben Sullivan.

Wattles has former Melbourne under-20 centre and Queensland Cup player Jake Hargreaves and former Western Mustangs star and Maroons U18 prop Will O'Gradey on their books this season.

Oakey has struggled in recent seasons but now has former NRL player Mark Tookey on its playing roster. Tookey played for Eastern Suburbs juniors in Warwick.

Tookey played 125 NRL games from 1996 to 2004.

NRL player Brett Seymour is coaching Valleys again while premiers Dalby are again expected to field a strong team despite the retirement of last season's A-grade captain Colin Green.

Dalby teams made it to the final fortnight of the 2017 finals in all four grades so should have plenty of depth.
