Trompf forced out for season

QUEENSLAND Firebirds star Keirra Trompf has sustained a season-ending knee injury.

The club announced yesterday that the Noosa Heads product injured her left knee at training last week, and yesterday learned she had torn the anterior cruciate ligament.

She will undergo surgery next Tuesday.

Trompf had a right knee re-construction in 2003.

"The timings are ironic. I injured my right knee in my very first Firebirds session, playing against them with my State League team, nine years ago almost to the day," she said.

Despite her absence, Trompf said she was confident the Firebirds would win their next two matches to get a shot at the 2012 finals series.

"The girls are seasoned professionals at dealing with injury and not letting it upset the flow," she said.

"They are a strong committed group and I have no doubt they will come out fired up to perform on Sunday."

Trompf made her Firebirds debut in 2005, and played an integral role in the club's undefeated 2011 premiership season.
