Truck among the bargains at sale

CLEARANCE sales are like extreme garage sales, or the male version of factory direct shopping, and Warwick farmer William Stuart struggled to shy away from a good bargain.

Mr Stuart moved to his 32-hectare farm on Canningvale Rd with his wife eight years ago from a property at Moree.

"I was a sheep shearer contractor," he said.

"I still do a bit of that and some wool classing as well.

"We have cattle and sheep at the moment."

On Saturday Mr Stuart attended a clearance sale at the Condamine Ponds property at Elbow Valley.

There were 179 other registered bidders and a crowd of at least 300 people.

Mr Stuart was at the sale to buy a tray.

He also purchased some wire and an electric fence charger, but he did not stop there.

For $325 the bargain hunter purchased an old red truck.

The truck is fully functioning... as long as you don't plan on stopping. The brakes don't work.

So why did Mr Stuart want the truck?

"That is a good question," he said.

Mr Stuart was reluctant to be in a photo, scared of what his wife would do to him when she found out what he had bought.

The farmer said his uncle, who lived in Brisbane, worked on trucks.

"Hopefully he will be able to fix the brakes," he said.
