Service station staff act quickly faced with truck inferno
UPDATE: A Goondiwindi service station manager has recalled the truck fire which destroyed bowsers and forced a quick evacuation.
BP Bridge Garage and Service Station assistant manager Shawn Nothdurft said staff shut down the bowsers and called 000 as soon as they realised the gravity of the situation.
Emergency crews were called to the Cunningham Hwy truck stop about 2.15pm Wednesday.
"He just pulled up to fuel up and she (the truck) caught on fire," Mr Nothdurft said.
The intense fire destroyed the truck as well as two diesel bowsers.
It also melted parts of a truck which was fuelling up in the next bay.
Mr Nothdurft said he was confident the underground fuel storage would not be exposed to the fire once the bowsers had been shut down.
"They have got to get builders out here to check the structure of the canopy."
"She was a big blaze."
Queensland Fire and Rescue Service fire investigator Captain David Lethbridge was busy yesterday working at the service station as well as the scene of a Goondiwindi house fire in Russell St.
A married couple escaped their home unharmed after fire took hold on Wednesday night.
Captain Lethbridge said the cause of the truck fire was not suspicious.
"We are still trying to determine the ignition source," Capt. Lethbridge said.
10AM: Fire investigators are on their way to Goondiwindi this morning to probe the cause of truck stop fire.
Goondiwindi residents reported loud explosions as fire spread between trucks and a petrol bowser.
The major BP truck stop on the Cunningham Hwy was evacuated when the fire broke out about 2.15pm yesterday.
There were no reports of injuries.

The fire at the BP service station on the Cunningham Hwy was reported to emergency services about 2.15pm.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Service crews extinguished the blaze and are currently dampening down the smouldering wreck.
Police, the Queensland Ambulance Service and Country Energy remain at the scene.
