An Aurizon truck and a car have collided on Bruce Hwy

UPDATE 3:45: The driver of the green Ford Falcon was transported to Proserpine Hospital after his car was smashed into by an Aurizon truck out the front of the Crossely Holden dealership on the Bruce Hwy.

A witness reported seeing the pull out in front of the south bound truck.

The 74-year-old man is now in a stable condition, a Queensland Health spokeswoman said.

INITIAL: AN elderly man has been transported to hospital after the green Ford Falcon he was driving was struck by an Aurizon truck.

At about 11:35 a witness from Airlie Beach was picking up some tyres when he saw the accident.

"He (the car) pulled out from the kerb in front of him and got speared underneath the truck. Its a wonder the back container didn't come off," the witness said.

"He (the driver of the car) is lucky he didn't get dead."

The truck hit the driver's side of the car and then veered off the road in front of the dealership.

One lane of the road remains closed and police are directing traffic through the accident while a tow truck removes the wrecked vehicle.

More to come.
