Firebirds have eyes on the prize
WE MAY be ranked fourth on the ladder, but we took down the reigning premiers, Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, and now that shiny trophy comes back to Australia with three Aussie teams battling it out to claim it as their own. We certainly have our eyes on the prize.
We had an incredible game against the Magic last Sunday in New Zealand.
The planets were aligned and everything fell into place - our attack was strong, off ball work was strong, we were patient with the ball and our through court defence was spot-on.
The Kiwi supporters were thunderous in the stadium, and that just made us more determined.
The only way to silence them was to win! We stayed in front for every quarter and finished with a three-point lead 53:50.
The team is pumped and we can't wait to play the Vixens in Melbourne on Sunday in the preliminary final.
We know it's going to be a tough game, especially with their home crowd behind them, but we play well when we're on the road and we're in great form.
This week we're having a really comprehensive training session, making sure we tick all the boxes and understand our game plan down to the last detail.
We've played the Vixens twice this year, winning one game and losing the other.
In an article on the ANZ Championship website Vixens captain Bianca Chatfield says they will try to slow down our goal attack, Natalie Medhurst who feeds the ball to our Shooter Romelda Aiken.
Bring it on ladies!
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 2 and Sky Sport 2 at 12.15 (AEST), and a delayed broadcast on SBS 2 at 4pm.
