Rob has true passion for events in Warwick
AFTER 18 years teaching hospitality and tourism at TAFE, life-long local Rob Hamilton has hung up his apron and joined the Warwick Tourism and Events team.
Bringing with him strong local knowledge and a passion for local events, Mr Hamilton has stepped up to the position of Events Co-ordinator with the busy Warwick Tourism and Events team.
Mr Hamilton said his interest in events stemmed from involvement in the hospitality industry, including co-ordinating conferences, functions and events - as well as volunteering with Jumpers and Jazz.
"In my role as a teacher at TAFE Qld South West I have had the opportunity to support students through their learning in a wide variety of experiences in hospitality and events," he told the Daily News.
Community is at the heart of the new event co-ordinator's passion for events, with Mr Hamilton holding strong beliefs about the benefits of tourism for everyone on the Southern Downs.
"Our region is incredibly rich with such a diverse range of events people can be involved in, whether it's sporting, cultural and/or community," he said.
"I believe that through our many events that are hosted within our community we will see an increase in both domestic and international tourism."
It's this passion for the community which is also driving a new desire to learn even more about local events for Mr Hamilton.
"When you live locally you don't fully appreciate aspects of tourism - I want to learn more from a community event perspective," he said.
"Over the coming months I look forward to deepening my knowledge of the events within our region by working alongside local associations, tourism operators, local businesses, event organisers, local councils and authorities, and regional tourism authorities."
