Trustee's parting wish to factor in council decision
COUNCILLORS will today vote on a recommendation to reject an application by the Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy to purchase a recreational reserve at the Broadwater State School.
But the original trustee Bevan Gow expressed his concern about what would happen to the Texas Rd reserve if the school ever closed.
In a public meeting, the Department of Education and Training guaranteed the land would be handed back to the community as a recreation reserve if the school ever closed.
Southern Downs Regional councillors will vote on the matter at a general council meeting this morning.
They will also consider ongoing negotiations with All Weapons Shooting Incorporated over the development of a long rifle range and handgun range at the Cherrabah Resort.
The development application has sparked community controversy, with concern for environment and noise disturbances to residents and wildlife in the surrounding area.
Developers want to increase the number of shooting stands in the application from two to five, thus expanding the capacity of the range.
But progress on the rifle range has been stifled by inconsistencies in the noise impact report provided by the applicant.
The council will vote on a decision whether to approve the application for an increase in shooting stands.
They will also decide whether to approve a negotiated decision for a upgrades of the United Petroleum station on Wallace St in Warwick.
