Try giving the gift of life
FORGET the itchy sweaters this year and give family members something they won't shove to the back of their wardrobe.
The Queensland Ambulance Service is urging those still hunting for the perfect Christmas present to consider the gift of saving a life.
The QAS has developed a number of vouchers this year, which people can purchase for a First Aid or CPR course for their loved ones.
Warwick Paramedic Paul Ryan said there was no better gift than giving someone the skills to save a life.
"Everyone should know first aid, it should be compulsory," Mr Ryan said.
"Throughout life, no matter what age - it can vary from a cut finger to drowning in the pool - it saves time and can save a life."
Mr Ryan said the holiday period always had potential hazards and having the skills to treat accidents was a massive help to the paramedics.
"Through summer everyone goes away and there's usually water sports involved with creeks and dams and it's always handy to have (first aid skills)," Mr Ryan said.
"Being a rural community there is always danger and leading up to Christmas and New Year's there's heaps of boats and trail bikes which have the potential to cause accidents."
Gift vouchers can be purchased from the Toowoomba Ambulance Station or over the phone on 313032.
First Aid courses cost $134.50 and CPR courses are $61.10.
