Try your hand at drag racing this weekend
IF YOU want to try drag racing, Saturday is the day and the Warwick Dragway is the place.
All you need is a car or bike, registered or non- registered, and a helmet, long-sleeve shirt and jeans.
Warwick District Drag Racing Association president Chris Loy said the November meeting was traditionally the one to try the sport.
"It is always a lot more laid-back as the last meeting of the year," he said.
"New drivers and riders will be given instructions in the sport before they try their first pass."
Loy said he expected 50% of the nominations would be road-registered vehicles and bikes.
"There are classes to cater for all vehicles and two classes for bikes, modified and street."
Round five of the track championship will be held on Saturday along with the Whoop Ass Cup, a competition between Warwick and Toowoomba.
Loy said Warwick had the better of Toowoomba most years.
"It has been going eight years and it is five to Warwick, two to Toowoomba and one to the weather," he said.
"Warwick member Lyn Stewart is the leader of the pack from Toowoomba."
Gates open at noon, with scrutineering from 1pm, qualifying from 3-6.30pm and racing from 7pm.
