Tub full of cannabis in freezer, scanner and scales found

IT MAY have looked like a regular ice cream tub, but inside was a different type of treat - cannabis.

Police found a number of clip seal bags containing the drug in a freezer at Jeffery Anthony Ware's Dee St home in Mount Morgan on July 9.

The Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard a total of 80g of cannabis and six grams of cannabis seeds were seized.

Five phones, two scales and a radio scanner tuned into the local police frequency were also found, as well as a notebook.

Police prosecutor Constable Erin Jones said the notebook contained the first names of people who owed Ware money and the amounts.

Duty lawyer William Prizeman said the money wasn't related to drugs, but Magistrate Cameron Press said he found that hard to accept.

Ware, 49, pleaded guilty to two counts of supplying cannabis, one count possessing the dangerous drug and four counts of possessing a utensil or thing.

Mr Prizeman said his client was unemployed and had been selling the cannabis to his mates in order to fund his own habit.

He said he was planning to divide the product found in half - some for him and the rest for his friends.

Mr Press said Ware was lucky he wasn't facing more serious charges in a higher court.

He sentenced Ware to six months jail, suspended for two years. Ware was also fined $2000 and a conviction was recorded.
