Tucking in to help out

HAVING spent 20 years behind the counter at Warwick West School's tuckshop, Robynne Yarwood certainly knows her way around the kitchen.

Starting as a volunteer when her sons (now 26 and 24 years old) were students, the mum said she couldn't think of a more satisfying way to spend her days.

Yesterday, at International Tuckshop Day, the clever cook said there were multiple reasons she loved her job.

"I love seeing the children: it gives me my fix, now my sons are grown up!" she laughed.

"Seeing the kids' satisfied faces is nice and whenever I go down town I always hear a 'hello Mrs Yarwood!'.

"I get a lot of reward and it's not just a fundraising service we provide but a help for parents, who don't have time to make lunches."

Feeding more than 600 mouths is no mean feat.

And Mrs Yarwood's tuckshop, like many others in Warwick schools, could do with a few more sets of helping hands.

Contact your local school to see how you can help by volunteering your time.
