Australia’s climate policies won’t be changing

THE Turnbull government will be sticking with its existing climate policies after a year-long review concluded they are good enough to meet Australia's international commitment to cut emissions.

The 2017 review of climate change policies, released on Tuesday morning, says the rapid pace of technology change makes it hard to predict what Australia's economy and future emissions will look like and therefore what level of reduction is needed.

It says the government will stick with its centrepiece policy, the Emissions Reduction Fund - which needs extra funding - adjust the safeguard mechanism that sets baseline emission levels to be offset with ERF, and consider allowing trade on international carbon markets.
