I HAD the pleasure of umpiring two fantastic games this week ending in drawn scores.

The theme young and fit versus experience settled over both games.

On Monday night, the Assumption College Confro team; a mix of skilled players developing into a well-oiled unit as they progress through the season played long time A-grade team Hazzards.

Hazzards combine refined skills, great player combinations, some younger players but mainly clever heads in their experienced side.

Hazzards welcomed new player Caitie Teo from Hobart to the court this week,

I'm sure given a few weeks to settle into our town and the team Caitie will add another dimension to the team.

A one-goal advantage in the first quarter to Confro was reversed by Hazzards in the final quarter for a 30-30 draw, a fitting end to a high quality game.

Age difference

Hot Shots versus Tradie Ladies, average age 15 versus 37, energy versus smarts (as a husband noted post game) and in support of our upcoming Pentath-run weekend, sprinter versus endurance athlete are all apt definitions summarising Tuesday's game between Hot Shots and Tradie Ladies.

Hot Shots could have be forgiven for feeling comfortable with a half-time seven-goal advantage, however, beware of the sure and steady Tradies staging a last quarter comeback for a 23-23 draw.
