Two sets of siblings win at cross country
CROSS COUNTRY: Two sets of siblings won events in the 10-12 years cross country at Allora this week.
Denika Murray from Glennie Heights State School was first in 10 years and her older sister Kiah was first across the line in 11 years.
Ben Carey from St Mary’s won the 10 years boys event and his older sister Meghan won by a 12-second margin in 12 years girls.
Other 10-12 years winners on the day were Lachlan Peardon (St Francis de Sales, Clifton) in 11 years and Lachlan Hogan (Warwick West) in 12 years.
St Mary’s won the trophy for most points by a school.
The top five in the 10-12 years age groups qualified for the Darling Downs trials at Kearney’s Springs in Toowoomba on May 24.
The 10 years athletes and 10-12 years AWD class athletes will run 2km in Toowoomba while the boys and girls in the 11 and 12 years age group will compete over a distance of 3km.
The Border trials for 13-19 years were held at the same carnival as 10-12 years Southern Downs trials.
Athletes in the 13 years age group and 13-19 AWD runners will compete over 3km while the distances will increase to 4km for 14-15 boys and 14-17 girls and further for older boys.
