Two wins in three games for Warwick Water Rats women

48 HOURS with Gerard Walsh

WELL done to the Warwick Water Rats on a 33-19 rugby victory against USQ in Toowoomba.

Warwick led 14-12 at half-time and now has wins against two of the powers of Downs rugby, Goondiwindi and USQ in successive weeks in B-grade. Second rower Ross Murray was player of the match in both games.

The Rats scored two pushover tries and were awarded a penalty try after the referee deemed USQ illegally stopped what would have been another pushover try.

In women's sevens, Warwick beat Goondiwindi 28-0, beat Condamine 19-10 and lost 15-10 to Dalby. New player Keeley Mooney from Tenterfield scored a try in each game.

The big footy news is the resurgence of Stanthorpe in the Border Rugby League. They had 19 and 21 at two training sessions last week and only went down 20-16 to a Killarney team which was inspired by Brett Watts.

Inglewood head the BRL competition after a 46-14 win against Tenterfield who went into the weekend with the competition lead.

Warwick Wolves had a 5-2 win against USQ in a football fixture game in Toowoomba. Gift Lisie scored two goals with Zac Wall, Nick Spence and Declan Butler also scoring. Lisie and Mitch Lyons were the best players.

In reserves, Ben O'Dea and Jai Catling scored in a 2-1 Wolves win against Highfields.
