Two wins to start day

NETBALL: The Warwick 1 12 years team started the final day of the State Challenge Carnival with two wins.

They beat Jimboomba 14-3 and Noosa 10-5 in their first two games yesterday at the Pine Rivers Netball Association courts.

Warwick 1 finished with four wins and one draw to finish equal seventh in division 4 under the coaching of Shari Hirning.

The Warwick 2 12 years team improved over the weekend under the coaching of Polly Hope in division 5.

In the 13 years age group, the Nancy De Prada coached Warwick team also improved in their first state carnival.

The Warwick 15 years team under coach Lisa Fitzgerald recorded one win for the weekend, a 15-8 victory against Mackay in division 2.

They had a close game against Bundaberg, going down 19-17.

Manager Linda Bunch said the score was even at half-time.

Overall, Bunch said the girls in all teams had an enjoyable weekend.

"The weather was perfect for netball, all games were on hardcourts," Bunch said.

Queensland Firebirds vice-captain Laura Geitz was one of three players from the ANZ Championships team to attend the carnival on Saturday.

"Laura spend time with some of the Warwick girls who weren't playing at the time," Bunch said.

Warwick will play in the next round of the Darling Downs Inter-district competition on May 20 at Dalby as a forerunner to three teams heading to the State Age Championships at the Sunshine Coast on the Queens Birthday weekend.
