Tyler after three wins from three in New Year's Eve Rodeo
RODEO: It is two from two for Assumption College student Tyler Aspinall in the ladies steer ride at the Steele's Bakery and Cafe New Year's Eve Rodeo, and she hopes to make it three wins tomorrow night.
She first competed in the poddy ride and then graduated to steers and the pony buckjump.
At this year's Warwick Rodeo, she won the ladies poley buckjump for the second successive year and was victorious in the ladies steer ride.
"I would love to see more ladies events,” she said.
Aspinall doesn't just turn up at events, she has a practice bucking drum at home.
"I work on my balance on the drum and can stop and make corrections,” she said.
She has also looked at videos by world champion bull rider Gary Leffew who suggests bull riders ride a bareback horse in practice.
"Bull riders Cameron Byrne and Scott Glasby have given me some good advice at rodeos and when they are at our place,” she said.
Before a rodeo, Aspinall admits she gets nervous but said it was a great feeling when she rode time.
Tomorrow, the 16-year-old will be going for a third successive win in the ladies steer ride. She has won some junior and juvenile campdrafts and will compete on her horse Tomcat in the barrel race on New Year's Eve but Aspinall said her real love was the rough stock events.
She also represents Warwick in netball.
Gates open at 10am, rodeo from 2pm to 9pm on New Year's Eve. Fireworks at 9pm and midnight.
