Unlucky blow for The Tank

FRIDAY night saw Warwick boxer Kyle "The Tank" Teer take on Kane Kassels in a fight that could have landed him the Queensland Lightweight title belt.

However the fight was stopped halfway through when Teer took a strike to the head which gave him a cut above his eyebrow.

Teer had fought for the title before but had never fought this particular opponent before.

A bricklayer by trade, Teer divides his training time between his home town of Warwick and Toowoomba, where his new trainer is based.

"I still train with the fitness group at the Warwick Boxing Club and I travel to Toowoomba twice a week for training," he said.

Teer's Toowoomba-based coach, Craig Monagle, said Teer fought well.

"He was going really well but unfortunately when you take a hit like that they have to stop the match," he said.

Monagle has been working with Teer for over a year.

"I have been working with Kyle for the last 14 months," he said.

"I have changed his style a bit.

"He uses his stamina to wear his opponents down.

"He did a good job but these things happen."

The fight was at Rumours International in Toowoomba on Friday night.
