Relief from water charges up for discussion

SOUTHERN Downs councillors will vote today on whether to adopt updates to council policies.

The council has reviewed policies including its investment, relief from water charges and debt recovery policies.

Amendments to eight policies will come before councillors in the June monthly general council meeting at the Warwick Council Chambers today.

Code assessable development applications will also be decided on in today's meeting.

These include the application for the development of a motel on High St in Stanthorpe and a spray painting and sand blasting enterprise in Maryvale.

Councillors have been asked to consider submissions opposing the development.

Swan Creek resident Chontelle Bruton said the sand blasting development would be inconsistent with the character of the region in her submission to the council.

"Approval to this site ... will, in turn, open the gates for future developers to put in place businesses of similar industry," her submission read.

Changes to the application for the Warwick Solar Farm will also be decided after the development was approved subject to conditions earlier this month.
